Kagura rank

Kagura (神楽) is the highest and most exalted Shinobi Rank in the world of Senran Kagura. It is first mentioned in Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus.

Overview[]

Kagura is the title given for shinobi who directly fight yōma on the front lines. Good, Evil and even Renegade shinobi can obtain this title, as it requires nothing more than immense training to achieve. Becoming Kagura is the ultimate goal of all shinobi who are aware of the existence of yōma.

The title, according to a TS file in Burst Re:Newal, derives from Kagura, the Slayer of Yōma. Though not proven, it is thought that the reason why Kagura are so powerful is because they were designated by Kagura herself as her vassals to fight yōma.

Kagura are highly revered within the Shinobi world, seen as the peak of power and the ultimate pinnacle of success, almost as if they are gods. Their terrifying strength is further proven when Sayuri, in spite of being elderly and retired, is still strong enough to fight and even overpower fellow shinobi much younger than her.

Despite holding immense power, Kagura are rare and not invincible. They are still shown to be susceptible to being killed by yōma if they are not careful, as seen in both Rin and Miyabi's respective backstories. It was revealed in Shinovi Versus that the Shinobi Battle Royale was held in order to produce Kagura more adept to fighting yōma, presumably to avoid further causalities due to their aforementioned rarity.
