Flower of Balance (陰陽変華, Onmyō Hen Hana), or just "Balance," is a fundamental ability, achieved by building one's affinity as well as a shinobi's ability to change fighting style based on the current outfit status.

(Main Series) - Balance, Attributes and Affinity Modes/States

In Senran Kagura: Portrait of Girls and Senran Kagura: Burst, one is able to build their affinity for both Yin and Yang. Progress is represented through Affinity Meters.

The Shinobi Transformation builds affinity for Yang, while Frantic builds affinity for Yin. Once these affinities are mastered, various beneficial effects are enabled during combat.

An affinity is mastered when its Affinity Meter is filled. Once filled, one gains access to its respective Affinity Mode, which can be selected on the character screen after selecting a character.

Yang Attribute

By performing a Shinobi Transformation, one calls upon the Yang Attribute, enabling the effects listed below:

  • Enable longer combos & Yang moves
  • Allows one Extra Aerial Rave Loop
  • Increases speed of Short Dash

Yin Attribute

While Frantic, one calls upon the Yin Attribute. Its most notable benefit is that Weak Attacks can be chained infinitely.

In addition, it has the following effects.

  • Enables longer combos & Yin moves
  • Attack power is greatly increased
  • Short Dash invincibility time is extended
  • Defensive power is greatly decreased

Yang Mode

Those who fully build their affinity for Yang will achieve a state of enlightenment. The result of Yang Mode is similar to the effects of a Shinobi Transformation, resulting in the added effects below.

  • Enable longer combos & Yang moves
  • Allows one Extra Aerial Rave Loop
  • Increases speed of Short Dash
  • Ninja Art gauge becomes easier to build
  • Being hit causes no stun time

Even without performing the Shinobi Transformation, its effects can be felt, but Frantic Mode is no longer possible.

Yin Mode

Those who fully build their affinity for Yin will achieve a state of enlightenment. The result of Yin Mode is a perpetual state of going frantic, and weak attacks can be chained, ad infinitum.

It also adds the following effects:

  • Enables longer combos & Yin moves
  • Attack power is greatly increased
  • Short Dash invincibility time is extended
  • Defensive power is greatly decreased
  • Limit Break no longer consumes health, when used, but can only be used while light surrounds one's body

Once selected, it forces one to remain Frantic at all times.

Flash Mode

Mode for those who transcend Yin and Yang and becomes available when both Yin and Yang have been mastered. It has the following effects before Shinobi Transformation.

  • Enables extended combos & Flash moves
  • Increases attack power
  • Increases defense power
  • Ninja Art gauge becomes slightly easier to build.
  • Enables infinite Aerial Rave loops
  • Extends Short Dash invincibility time
  • Reduces health loss during Limit Break
  • All Strong Attacks break enemy guard.

As seen above, this combines the advantages of both Yin and Yang. The only drawback is that Frantic Mode becomes unavailable.

The Balance System is not present in Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson.

(Versus Series) - Flower of Balance States

In Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus and Senran Kagura: Estival Versus, there are three different Balance statuses: Flash, Yang, and Yin. By fighting in these three states, one can learn various skills. Each state has different combo attacks, and certain situations are better suited to one than the other.

  • Flash: Regular clothes. Flash is depicted as yellow in color.
  • Yang: A shinobi's battle outfit after Shinobi Transformation. Yang is depicted as red in color.
  • Yin: A shinobi in Frantic mode. Yin is depicted as blue in color.

Flash

When in uniform or casual clothing, the shinobi's outfit status is Flash. Flash is a basic state in which the character will have a respectable number of moves at their disposal. As Flash is enhanced, the character will be able to parry attacks more easily and increase EXP and money gain.

Yang

During Shinobi Transformation, the shinobi's outfit status is Yang. While in Yang mode, they can preform continuous attacks by pressing various buttons repeatedly. In this mode, their attack and defense are both increase. As Yang is enhanced, they can learn special techniques such as HP Regeneration and Enhanced Guard.

Yin

When a shinobi has gone Frantic, their outfit status is Yin. In this state, weak attacks can be chained together infinitely. Frantic fighters gain a huge boost to attack, but a huge drop in their defense. As Yin is enhanced, they'll gain numerous benefits such as a more forgiving combo counter and a Ninja Art gauge restoration via taunt.

Trivia

  • Flash is a Mode all its own in the Main Series, while it is merged with the Normal state in the Versus Series.
    • It is worth noting that Flash Mode takes effect right away while the character was still in their Normal state.
    • However, in the Versus Series, the effects on Flash only take effect before Shinobi Transformation or going Frantic, where as Flash Mode prevented the player from going into Frantic Mode and did not carry over the effects from Yang Mode upon Shinobi Transformation.
